[dropcap]A[/dropcap]t one time, not long ago, the call for the ‘PEACE PROCESS’ between the NSCN (IM) and the GOVERNMENT OF INDIA made great noises in all public sundry places of Nagaland as if it is a program of the highest Heavens. Every move of the IM was supposed to be in consonant with the Peace Process and every slightest demurral of the Group’s unacceptable behaviors, used to be daubed as endangering the sacrosanct Peace-Process; always mentioned to be in delicate stage. Any question or critique on the Group, invited righteous, if not riotous condemnation as if a universal Truth has been violated and sycophant NGOs of the State surprisingly supported them in the name of the exalted Peace Process.
Peace between India and Pakistan is very welcome; Peace between Israel and the Palestinians is very much desired but if a Government were to sue for Peace with Talibans or Terrorists, it would be very unsettling to the public. The woman President of South Korea, at the height of the North’s belligerency, told her people:
“Fear of the Enemy will not bring Peace”.Peace brought not with mutual goodwill is like a necessary evil that does not make the People vibrant and lively; it only makes them complaisant, soft, despondent and spineless.
Today Nagas appear complaisant, soft, lacking in earnestness and decisiveness, seeking Peace only for Subsidy Money. There is excess of Unemployed Force in the State of Nagaland but there is acute shortage of Characters to shake up and motivate the Naga Society for earnest living in Politics and in the Government Bureaucratic machinery.
The Churches in the State are full of Praises unto God; Religious Teachers are full of beautiful Sermons on TRUTH from the Pulpit, but no deeds of Truth in their own Church. Praises on Jesus and Prayers to God overflow most Churches but doing what Jesus commanded is not seen in the deeds of most in its own Church.
Everybody seem to wonderfully know and describe the II Korinthians Chapter 13 in the Pulpit but like the sweet American seedless Grape the Love of God preached fervently from the Pulpit does not germinate in practice inside the hallowed Church Building. What can be more hypocritical and non-Christian than this? What can be more false than this untruth? Every thing of ‘Christianity-For-Show’ is in our lives except genuine live Christianity.
“Peace, Peace, they say when there is no Peace”, said Prophet Jeremiah, after their King Zedekiah reneged from his earlier solemn Oath to pay Tribute to the King of Babylon but later hobnobbed with Nico, the Pharoah of Egypt, for love of Money, for which Nebuchadnezzar laid siege to Jerusalem the second time.
“Go and Make Peace with the King of Babylon and save Jerusalem”, advised Prophet Jeremiah. The King replied:
“I am not afraid to approach the King of Babylon”.
“But the King will hand me over to our own People who have defected to the King and they will mistreat me intolerably: this I cannot bear”, said Zedekiah, King of the Judah.
Judah lived too long in complaisant Peace that made them soft, spineless and devoid of discernment of genuine Peace.
The History of the Jewish people has a lot of lessons to teach Nagas but perhaps Nagas would see reality like Paul discerned reality only when he became blind on the Road to Damascus.
India occupies a slightly more favorable Plane than its neighbor Pakistan in the Eye of the World; it is magnanimous for India to initiate Peace Process with Pakistan. If Pakistan reciprocates, it could well be India and Pakistan’s blessing to South East Asia.
Modi’s past utterances appear saffron color; the people recollect the year 2002 Gujarat dark days; the State Court has given “a clean Chit” and now that he is become the undisputed popular Prime Minister of India, no one would take him to the Court at Delhi.
Considerately and hopefully; his post swearing-in Utterances as the Prime Minister of India on Indo-Pakistan Relations appear seasoned Voice, welcome and correct in the right direction. Today Mr. Modi seems to have suddenly become a different man; he seemed to have vision. These are hopeful signs: the Indo-Pakistan dispensation appears cuttingly hopeful.
The Senas of Maharastra were greatly incensed at his invitation for Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif; the Tamils are miffed at Modi’s kindness to their ancient foe Rajapakasa of Sri Lanka and the great Tamil Lady –Jayalalita of Tamilnadu together with Mamata, the Heroin of West Benagal have declined the invitation to the Prime Minister’s swearing in Ceremony at Delhi. They are genuinely true to their political principle.
Mr. Manik Sarkar, the lasting poorest of the Chief Ministers of India and Kerela’s Chief Minister too, both on genuine political norm have shown their political mettle by deciding to avoid the spectacular Ceremony. Nagas seemed to have vied for attendance to the Ceremony!
Amidst all such vicissitudes of political realities, Modi has suddenly and hopefully displayed good judgment. He boldly invited all SARC Representative Members.
Modi seemed to have turned a New Creature: When a Politician changes his political demeanor so suddenly: My comment is:
‘Very good’: Let us carefully wait and hopefully see.
