31st August 2013 was a red letter day for the Nagas. The very memories of the Public Rally organized by the ACAUT (then christened as Action Committee Against Unabated Taxation) still lingers in the minds of many and it makes one nostalgic reminiscing the ‘PEOPLE’S MOVEMENT’. The rally was first of its kind and the largest and the people had flocked from every corner of the town to express their resentment against the injustices that had plagued them for too long a time.
Since then, ACAUT has come a long way and has never looked back. Its objectives has also been widened with an aim to tackle corruption which is very much prevalent and seemingly visible in our State. Today, Against Corruption And Unabated Taxation has become a household name and has brought many cases to the limelight which the public were ignorant of. While there are many who expresses their unflinching support to ACAUT, there are few who still questions the credibility of ACAUT. Be it known that ACAUT is only a pressure group and not an authority with no powers vested on them. They were water cannoned, jailed when they confronted against the wrongdoing of the Government. The motive of ACAUT is simple and crystal clear- to bring justice to the common people. It has also explicitly stated that the Rally called by it on 25thof August is not directed against any political party. The rally will be by far the greatest in our history and it will lead us to a new dawn. It will definitely trigger the minds of many young people that ‘Enough is Enough’ and we can no longer remain a mute spectator when are our land is burning. We need to break off the shackles and join hands to eradicate corruption from our society.
As for the Naga Council Dimapur press statement stating their non-involvement in the Public Rally called by ACAUT. It only shows their immature and incompetent leadership. It makes one to wonder which Nagas the NCD are representing when the entire Nagas is supporting this movement. However, their non-involvement in the rally will not in any way deter the People’s Movement which is supported by one and all.
While there are forces that are deliberately and desperately trying to sabotage the People’s Movement. Mention may also be made that certain positive developments are taking place. The Dimapur Auto Driver’s Union Dimapur has proposed to give free ride to the citizens willing to participate in the rally. The Public Service Aspirants Nagaland had painstakingly visited all the Colleges and Higher Secondary Schools in and around Dimapur Town to seek their participation in the rally which very much concerns their future. Besides, many apex organizations have expressed their overwhelming support for the rally. What then will be your contribution for our society? Will you sit back at home and voice out against corruption only through Social Medias?
It really saddens me when I try to visualize our future. Because our future is bleak and there is no prospect for change if we are to progress at this rate. We are all witness to the existing sad state of affairs and what more corroboration do we need to attend the rally? The Rally was very much needed and is taking place at an appropriate time. Anyone who loves their motherland and yearns for a change is ACAUT and should participate in the rally. Moral Support only will not yield any solution.
