DIMAPUR — Daniel Lyngdoh Wahlang from Meghalaya and Tsuchoi T from Nagaland
emerged as the champions of the 4th edition of the "Nagaland 10K, The
Great Hornbill Run” in the men's and women's categories, respectively.
The event
was held at Regional Centre for Sporting Excellence (RCSE) near Cricket
Stadium, Sovima, Chümoukedima, on Monday.
In the 10K
road race senior men’s category, the second position was secured by Wede T Mero
and third by Tsole Yhokha, both from Nagaland.
In senior
women’s 10K run, Songmo P and Peheiteile Esalung, both from Nagaland, were
placed in second and third positions, respectively.
In the 10
Km under-20 boy’s category, Thothgacheirin from Manipur won first place,
followed by Nagaland lads Takasanen Longkumer Temjensanen Pongen in the second
and third places, respectively.
In the 10
Km under-20 girl’s category, H Wannya and Cekrotalu, both from Nagaland,
secured first and second positions, respectively, while Samika Ronghangpi from
Assam was placed third.
In the 8 Km
under-18 boy’s category, Kh. Zabed Hussain from Manipur emerged as the winner,
Harmon Timung from Assam secured second position, while Zhaizhovei Raimai from
Manipur secured third position.
In the 8 Km
under-18 girl’s category, Chongsop P from Nagaland won first position, Serlibon
Teronpi from Assam secured second position and Supei S from Nagaland third
position.
All the top
seven winners in different categories were awarded cash prizes.
Hornbill Run a bridge to connect cultures —

Addressing the
award distribution ceremony at Multidiscipline Sports Stadium Sovima, Governor
of Nagaland, La Ganesan said that the “The Great Hornbill Run” not only
highlights the exuberance of athletics but also aims to foster a spirit of
friendship and competitive excellence among the young athletes.
The
governor noted that the event, where domestic and international participants
converge, serves as a stage both of dreams and a testament to the unifying
power of sports.
The event
is more than a race as it is a bridge to connect cultures and a platform to
encourage the youth, he said.
Ganesan
also said that the state government endeavours to nurture talent from the
grassroots and that the open competition will encourage young athletes to rise
and shine.
He also
commended the Nagaland Athletics Association (NAA) for its “monumental
achievements” including hosting the South Asia Cross Country Championship and
the 56th National Cross Country Championship 2022, where the Nagaland women's
team clinched the silver medal in the national category.
The event
was hosted by the Nagaland Athletics Association under the aegis of Nagaland
Olympic Association, Athletics Federation of India and Department of Tourism,
and sponsored by Bank of Baroda.
General
Manager and zonal head NES Zone, Guwahati, Sonam Tshering Bhutia, also
addressed the closing ceremony.
Earlier,
Abu Metha, president of NAA and vice president of Athletics Federation of
India, delivered the welcome address.
