‘In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth’ Human beings debate in endless circles about the Big Bang theory; yet, even today, no scientist can prove conclusively that the universe simply ‘popped’ out of nothingness or created itself. Christians, on the other hand, possess the whole truth, and nothing but the truth directly from the Manufacturer because of the Bible. The account and the dimensions of creation never cease to amaze me. For those of us in love with the night sky, we see the vivid imagination of God take shape in the form of the celestial bodies. ‘The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.’ Job 9:9 directly talks about the Bear, the Orion and the Pleiades – these are all constellations we can study every night. Even long before man discovered that the earth is not flat but round, the inherent Word of God had already testified to this fact in Isaiah 40:22.All branches of science are based on laws which are consistent; this clearly points to the knowledge we have of our God as a God of order who reminds us time and again to keep His laws. Those who study and conduct investigations, however, should bear in mind that scientific knowledge is the result of meticulous experiments – we are striving to reverse-engineer the Grand Master’s design and deduce its purposes. The worldly knowledge offers us scraps and bits of the great jigsaw puzzle; many a time we are in error, for human beings are flawed and imperfect. However, even little is much when God is in it. Our perception of the here and now is sufficient to leave us staggered on how intricately God designed the universe, and how utterly involved He is with His handiwork. It is an overwhelming task to list the whole account of the Bible’s take on science simply because there are too many; here is one: In Job 38:24, The Lord speaks to Job on the dispersion of light. It was only four centuries ago that Sir Isaac Newton proved through his prism experiments that white light is composed of seven colors which can be parted and recombined. Beyond the call of duty and the varied hassles of life, spending a little time with nature daily will fill us with a profound sense of peace. We can hear the voice of The Creator in the whisper of the wind and witness His love for us in the beauty of a flower. To pause, stare and marvel at how an old oak tree was packed into a little seed is a free gift of joy because synthetic seeds are stillunfeasible. Even the study on the mechanism of the human body – the perfect control and co-ordination of the various organ systems, the self-repair and defense, the relationship between the mental, physical, spiritual and emotional state of our mind leaves us in awe and wonder. As wisdom and knowledge increase, we too automatically echo Albert Einstein’s belief, “the more I study science, the more I believe in God.” Everything that ever existed was created by God simply by Word. Man is still unraveling the mysteries of the universe; it is only a fragment we know today, the full knowledge will be imparted only when we meet Him face to face. The majesty of the heavenly bodies and the splendor of the earth recount the story of the omnipotence and omnipresence of God. All form of nature is an attribute to our God – the Alpha and the Omega. I would imagine Him smile in amusement when mere humans, composed of dust, become vain and claim credit for discoveries and fail to acknowledge the Creator. Since childhood, I have been fascinated by science. This spirit of inquiry led me to read up on books and articles from astronomy to endocrinology, organic chemistry to quantum physics – then, completely humbled in trying to find scientific rational explanations to all my thought processes – I came full circle with the firm conclusion that the answers to all questions have already been answered in the Creator’s manual. The more I delve into the study of theorems and the laws of science, the more I see God. It is as C. S. Lewis rightly pointed out, “We may ignore but we can nowhere evade the presence of God. The world (and universe) is crowded with Him. He walks everywhere incognito.” Arennungla Jamir
