What are we Nagas become? Do we believe that our generation will be the last to walk the earth; that we must grab everything in sight with no thought for others or for tomorrow? We lie, cheat, steal and murder to feed our ambitions and greed; thereby turning ourselves into hypocritical abominations in the eyes of Man and God. I pose these questions to you:-
To the Politician
Who asked you to stand for public office? Nobody. You do so that you may pervert the powers of your office to lord over those you represent and twist the Laws of The Land to favour a few at the expense of the multitude. You grow fat on the fruits of your corruption and veniality, knowing fully well that every paisa you own is wrested from the pockets of the poor and needy; thereby proving to the entire world that you are nothing more than pickpockets.
Who asked you to buy votes? Nobody. You buy votes so that you may do all of the above and then you and your family and supporters have the audacity to state that you have to recover the money you spent to buy votes.
To the “Freedom Fighter”
Who asked you to fight for the reedom of the Nagas? Nobody. You did so out of your own conviction and reason. If you really believe that the Nagas should be free of all foreign control, does it mean that the Nagas should fall under your control?
We do not denigrate your struggle and sacrifices; but since you struggled and sacrificed voluntarily you cannot expect homage and payment. Did George Washington, Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and other true freedom fighters struggle against alien rule so that their people would worship and/or pay them in any manner? No, they did it so that the exploitation and suppression of their people could be stopped. All the homage and honours heaped on them came voluntarily from those they represented and freed.
To the Bureaucrat/Technocrat
Are you not more educated than the average Naga on the street? Do you not realise that you are in office to see that the Laws of the Land are followed? Yet you lose no opportunity to twist and bend the very laws that uphold you in your offices so that only you and your political masters are benefitted. You are the ones that show the Politicians and “Freedom Fighters” the ins and outs of corruption; you lead them in the shady twists and turns of swindling the Common Man.
To the Theologian
Do you believe in God? If you do believe in Him, why do you abandon His Ways? Are you not The Shepherds of Christ? If you think you are, why do you desert the Naga Sheep and follow The Paths of Belial, Baal, Mammon and all the Unholy Demons to enjoy the company and the benefits of The Wolves of Satan? You, more than all else, should be stating what I state here. Your Pulpits are the proper place to denounce the Sins we Nagas commit. But it seems that like all those I’ve mentioned above, you have perverted your True Purpose and serve yourselves instead of serving God, Christ and the Holy Spirit.
To The Indian Authorities
Do you realise that you are the Root of All the Evils that have beset Nagaland? You sought to rule us against our will; and you brought us your Laws along with your Rule. But you are so insecure in your sovereignty over us that you fail to enforce your own Constitution and Laws. Your failure to enforce your laws is what fuels corruption in Nagaland. This All-Pervasive Corruption, in turn, fuels disenchantment in the hearts and minds of the vast majority of Nagas. This corruption and disenchantment feeds more recruits into the insurgency. You have created a self-sustaining insurgency, not in Nagaland alone, but also in Manipur.
I have never been against the “Framework Agreement” or the “Solution” promised by it. All I have ever wanted was to know the contents so that all Nagas could voice their opinions and doubts; that it may provide a Genuine Solution for All Nagas. But since it is to be shrouded in secrecy, I earnestly request the Decision Making Indian Authorities to SIGN IT IMMEDIATELY; OR ABROGATE IT IMMEDIATELY. We have waited 20 odd years; we cannot wait indefinitely while we are being sucked dry from all sides. The “Framework Agreement” has become a Sword of Damocles, hanging over Nagaland; a carrot AND a stick to tempt and threaten the Nagas of Nagaland at the same time.
Only when it is signed and revealed will the People of Nagaland be satisfied. For then every one of us will be able to judge it for what it really is, and not on the basis of speculation and rumours, as is presently the case. Then it will fall upon every Indigenous Inhabitant of Nagalandto react to the “Agreement” in any way he deems proper. The “Framework Agreement” and its promised “Solution” has become a fish that has been stored for long enough; the longer it is stored, the more it begins to stink. Sign it and feed it to us. Then will we know whether it will nourish or poison us.
The Dreams of The Young of Nagaland have been turned into Nightmares for too long. The Blood of The Young of Nagaland have fuelled The Fires of Corruption and Selfishness for too long. They are aware of the evils that plague Nagaland and seek an opportunity to address them; but this “Framework Agreement” has cast a darker shadow on the path they seek to follow. So sign it and reveal it, so that they may know what the future portents and the steps they must take to secure their Hopes and Aspirations. For we have stunted their growth in the shadow of our selfish ambition and corruption for too long. And, as with all things, the old must give way to the new; so, sign the “Framework Agreement” so that they may know if they are to be Blessed or Damned for all time.
