The Collective Tribe wins the Open Beat Contest 2026 organised by Groove Element in Mokokchung.
MOKOKCHUNG — The Collective Tribe from Tuli emerged victorious at the Open Beat Contest 2026, while Mokokchung-based Phoenix Shift claimed the first runners-up position at the Town Hall in Mokokchung on the evening of September 26.
The musical event was organised by Groove Element. Ten bands advanced to the final stage, each presenting a distinct musical style. The finalists were ManForce, Soulgraven, ROCKAMENTIA, Ecstasy, The Dream Project, Phoenix Shift, The Oceanix, Blind Pig, The Collective Tribe, and ZONI.
Performances were assessed by a five-member panel of judges comprising Nzan Kithan, Meren Imchen, Jungshi Aier, Ezra Amon, and Moalong. The evening also featured guest appearances by ARKEEN as the guest band and Talimoa Longchar as the guest artist, with Sentijungla hosting the programme.
The Collective Tribe, an alternative rock band formed in 2026, delivered the winning performance. The five-member group, drawn from the Karbi and Naga communities, centres its music on friendship, cultural diversity, and a shared collective voice. Its members are Sarsonot Ronghang (lead vocalist), Temjensunep Lemtur (lead guitarist), Yimtinungtet Lemtur (rhythm guitarist), Ezakiel Tisso (bassist), and Bendangsenba Yuden (drummer).
Phoenix Shift, a rock and power metal band formed in 2025, finished as first runners-up. Comprising young musicians united by a passion for rock, metal, and live performance, the group draws influences from both classic and contemporary styles. Its line-up includes Liju Achumi (lead vocalist), Jongshiwapang (lead guitarist), Imdangmeren (rhythm guitarist and keyboardist), Walu (bassist), and Chuba (drummer).
Individual awards highlighted outstanding musicians from five different finalist bands. Sarsonot Ronghang of The Collective Tribe was named Best Vocalist, while Jongshiwapang of Phoenix Shift took the Best Guitarist award. Anok of Blind Pig was adjudged Best Bassist, Rongpangnok Ozukum of ZONI received Best Drummer, and Insanok of ManForce was recognised as Best Keyboardist.
