Dimapur, May 12
The monthly review of the Dimapur district Health division’s activities was conducted on May 11 in the Chief Medical Officer’s conference hall in the town. During the review, District Tuberculosis Officer of Dimapur, Dr. Talitoba, presented the activities and performance status of his department. During the presentation, he urged other health centers to improve their sputum collection and also the ‘referral components’.
Another officer, Dr. Lanuakum, reminded the members about the “UIP schedule of RI and Open Vial Policy”. He stated that vaccines such as the “DPT, Hep, OPV and TT” can be used up to four weeks provided the vaccines have not expired or the vaccine vial monitor had not been damaged. The storage temperature is maintained at 2-8 degree Celsius, he said and reminded the members to note the date and time of opening new vials.
Dr. Lanuakum also gave an outline to the members about the vaccine for japanese encephalitis and how it can now be used up to 4 hours like “BCG and measles vaccines”.
‘Earlier JE vaccine could be used up to 2 hours only,’ he said and requested all units to further improve the monitoring and immunization activities during the ongoing Indradhanush Mission. He requested the medical officers to ‘re-orient health workers’ in their respective blocks during their respective monthly meetings.
