Dimapur, June 16 (EMN): The Thanamir Village Students’ Union has appealed for help from the authorities to mitigate difficulties being faced by the area’s people after a bridge and a wall in the village were damaged following heavy rainfall.
The organisation issued a press release earlier this week informing about the occurrence. “Week-long incessant pre-monsoon rain washed away retaining wall arid ground foundation of Bailey Bridge bypass to Thanamir village on the 4th June 2017.The bridge was constructed a couple of years back which is the only bypass via to Thanamir village where mostly tourist travelers and visitors come from different places and from within and outside the state of Nagaland,” the press release. The statement stated “unprecedented moisture in the soil and abnormal humidity due to long period of rain.”
The ground foundation and retaining wall of the bridge were partially washed away during consequent rainfall, the union stated. The union stated further that officials of the department “swung into action to tackle and mitigate the problem faced by general public.”
According to the union, Thanamir is also known as an ‘apple village’ and a tourist spot. Travellers and tourist have been facing difficulties due to the ‘unsafe condition of the bridge,’ the union stated. The organisation has appealed to the department in concern to ‘look into the matter at the earliest for the convenience of the public.
