DIMAPUR — Thousands of people gathered in vibrant traditional attire at Thahekhu Village to mark the platinum jubilee of Thahekhu Village-cum-Baptist Church on the theme, “God of generations,” on Sunday.
The historic event was held at the newly constructed Thahekhu Baptist Church.
Delivering the sermon on the jubilee theme, executive secretary of WSBAK, Rev. Dr. Phughoto Sema, reflected on the biblical declaration of King Nebuchadnezzar, who acknowledged that God’s kingdom is everlasting and that His dominion endures from generation to generation.
He narrated that while Nebuchadnezzar once took pride in his power, wisdom, and achievements as king, believing his kingdom was built by his own strength, God’s judgment soon followed. The king was driven away from his palace and lived like an animal in the fields for seven years.
According to Rev. Phughoto, it was only after the king humbled himself and acknowledged God’s sovereignty that he regained his sanity and authority.
Nebuchadnezzar then declared that all creation belongs to God and gave all glory to Him, proclaiming that God is truly the God of generations.
He said that while generations change and lifestyles, customs, and ways of living evolve over time, God remains the same from generation to generation. “God alone never changes,” he said.
He reminded the gathering that the same God who led the pioneers, Asu Thahekhu and Asu Hejeto, had guided the people through the years, enabling the village to celebrate its 75th jubilee today. He urged the congregation to give thanks to God for His faithfulness.

Rev. Phughoto said, “Kings rise and fall, kingdoms come and go, but God’s kingdom will never fall,” adding that pride blinded Nebuchadnezzar and serves as a warning to believers today.
He also highlighted the generosity of the pioneers who had donated land for the welfare of the people, where the Akuvuto Mission Centre now stands.
He noted that the act of faith by the early leaders became the foundation for the inception of WSBAK.
He said the legacy of faith has continued through the people of Thahekhu, who today shine prominently within the association.

In addition, the village has produced several accomplished officers serving in prestigious positions such as IPS, IRS, NCS, and NPS, which he described as blessings from God.
The WSBAK leader cautioned believers against becoming prideful and attributing success solely to their own abilities, warning that such arrogance could lead to the same downfall experienced by Nebuchadnezzar.
Instead, he urged the people to remain humble and continue seeking God in the years ahead.
Delivering greetings during the programme, Akükatou K Kakheho Yepthomi of Thahekhu Village said the milestone celebration was possible because of the sacrifices and vision of the pioneers.
He recalled that the village began with just 14 houses and 61 people, with Asu Thahekhü establishing the village in March 1951 before passing away in 1952.
He noted that the early settlers endured many hardships while laying the foundation for the community.
Yepthomi acknowledged the contributions of past and present leaders and said that the blessed life enjoyed by the villagers today is largely due to the dedication and perseverance of the pioneers.
Over the years, he said, people from different places and villages have settled in Thahekhu, and the population has grown significantly, with about nine to ten colonies now forming part of the village.
He attributed the progress of the village to the prayers of parents and early servants of God and expressed hope that the community would continue to prosper and celebrate its centenary in the same church in the years to come and challenged the youth to live in the fear of God and strive for success in all areas of life.
Earlier in the programme, three flags were hoisted to mark the jubilee celebration. The Thahekhu Village flag was hoisted by Akükatou K Kakheho Yepthomi, the platinum jubilee flag by Akükau ‘Gen’ Samson Aye, and the church flag by Rev. Dr. Yehevi Jimo, senior pastor of TVBC.
