Dimapur, March 16 (EMN): The Thahekhu Village Council (TVC), in Dimapur, “senses” that the ongoing construction of roads as part of the Interstate connectivity (ISC) project is ‘going at a snail’s pace.’
Further, a press release from the village stated on Saturday, the construction work might not be ‘done according to specifications.’
“In regard to the ongoing construction of roads under the ISC project, from Dhobinala to Assam border via Thahekhu village, TVC senses that the works are going at a snail’s pace and are not being done according to specifications,” the press release stated.
“In addition to that, culverts and retaining wall, drainages along the stretches of the road and a crucial bridge at Rangapahar crossing connecting Dimapur town to Assam are still left untouched and neglected.”
According to the council, commuters have taken the road via Thahekhu village where heavy vehicles have damaged the approach road ‘very badly and heavy traffic has also put the lives of residents of Thahekhu village at high risk of being hit by recklessly driven vehicles.’ Situation has been so ever since the old Purana Bazaar Bridge was demolished and the Nagajan Bridge was closed to traffic, the press release stated.
The council has urged the contractor in concern to “hasten up the work so as to complete it in stipulated time while the quality of the work and the parts like bridges and culverts are also not compromised.” The village believes that it will ‘relieve the general commuters much’ if the project is completed before the monsoon sets in.
“In the event of failure on the part of the contractor to pay heed to the plights of the general public, the TVC would be compelled to resort to our own course of legal procedures for which we should not blamed,” the press release added.
