Thahekhu Ghami Kiphimi Kuqhakulu (TGKK) T20 Cricket Tournament got underway Thursday under the theme ‘Discipline, fitness and unity’ at Thahekhu village local ground. Altogether 23 teams are taking part in the tournament.
Gracing the opening ceremony as the chief guest, Keninlo Rengma, AE, CAWD, Phek, encouraged the participating teams to play with sportsman spirit. While maintaining that games and sports help in character building and help keep a person active physically and mentally, the chief guest reminded that sports has become best career option. He said that sports has been commercialized now and added that there is a huge market to take in goods sportsman. He also lauded the organization for organizing the tournament and further expressed his hope that the tournament will not be a one-time affair but continue to grow and become a premier tournament.
The chief guest also hoisted the tournament flag and declared the tournament open.The winner of the tournament will receive a cash prize of Rs.75, 000 along with the trophy while the runner-up will receive Rs.35, 000. Semi-finalists will receive Rs.6000 each, best batsman and best bowler will receive Rs.3000 each while the man of the tournament will be awarded Rs.5000.
Earlier, God’s blessing was invoked by Mughabeto Jimo, Associate Pastor TVBC, welcome address was delivered by Filoka Chishi, president TGKK, Rongjila Mech present a special and the programme was chaired by Nikita, statistical secretary TGKK.
