DIMAPUR, JULY 22
The security forces have averted a major terror strike in Nagaland which was planned to be executed jointly by ULFA(I) and NSCN(K), according to the PRO, IGAR(North).
Intelligence reports had indicated that United National Liberation Front of West South East Asia (UNLFWSEA) under the Chairmanship of SS Khaplang and supported by Paresh Barua was planning to carry out major terror strikes in Nagaland, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, the IGAR(N) said in a press statement today.
In the past few months credible intelligence inputs confirmed that a number of highly destructive radio controlled Improvised Explosive Devices have been smuggled into Nagaland with the aim of specifically targeting the districts of Dimapur, Kohima, Wokha, Mokokchung, Mon and Tuensang. These were to be exploded in populated areas with the aim of creating a fear psychosis in the population and pressuring the state government to accept the diktat of UNLFWSEA, the IGAR(North) alleged.
According to the IGAR(N), the two Improvised Explosive Devices and two military grade anti-tank mines recovered in the jungles of Polubadze mountain during the operation by security forces on July 21 have confirmed the nefarious designs of UNLFWSEA. Each Improvised Explosive Device has a weight of 4.5 kg and has enough destructive power to bring down a concrete house, it added. “It is very unfortunate that the NSCN(K) faction has joined hands with a terrorist organisation like ULFA(I) to cause mayhem among their own people. The Nagas of NSCN(K) living in Myanmar are having a comfortable time since they have signed Ceasefire agreement with government of Myanmar and their leaders are misguiding the Naga youths on the Indian side to resort to violence against their own brethren”, the press note further said.
According to the press note, the UNLFWSEA is intending to launch a number of attacks in Nagaland, Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh during and before Independence Day in August. “All citizens are advised to be careful in the days to come and should immediately report any suspicious items found lying unattended at any place to the police and security forces,” the press note advised. The security forces will continue to work untiringly towards ensuring peace in Nagaland and providing a secure environment for development and growth of the citizens of the state, it added.
