Dimapur, April 5 (EMN): The leader of the opposition in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) has asked news portal Swarajya—which accused opposition leader TR Zeliang of having served funds to terror outfits—to clarify its claims and to apologise by 6:00 pm of April 8 or face a legal recourse.
A press release issued by the press secretary to the opposition leader TR Zeliang noted the news article ‘NIA’s Naga terror-funding probe reveals insidious role of top bureaucrats, politicians and church elders’ which was stated to have been published on Swarajya on April 2.
“Since the factual position of TR Zeliang with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been misinterpreted, intentionally or otherwise, clarification is sought at the earliest, failing which legal recourse will be initiated against you and your firm for defamation,” the statement to Jaideep Majumdar, associate editor of Swarajya, stated.
Claiming to have gathered information from the NIA, Rangapahar 3rd corps, Kohima Assam Rifles (north) and a central intelligence agency, the news report had alleged that TR Zeliang was personally involved in the collection of taxes on behalf of the NSCN-K.
The letter has denied the claims and termed it not only incorrect but a direct challenge to the integrity of Zeliang.
Failure to clarify the matter and apologising through leading print, electronic and social media including Swarajya before 6 pm of April 8 as requested would be viewed in the most serious manner,’ the statement added.
