Imphal, Oct 27: Manipur Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh has said that his Government has reaffirmed not to compromise with the territorial integrity and oneness of its people in the state at any cost.
In order to strengthen the stand, an all-political party meeting would be held at CM’s Secretariat at 4 pm today, he said. Besides taking a firm decision, an all-political party delegation would go and approach the concerned central parties to inform the about the stand and ground reality if necessary.
Speaking to media persons on the sideline of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ spot painting competition at Imphal, Chief Minister Biren also informed that they support and encourage the peaceful solution to the ongoing Naga issue.
The NSCN-IM is on a peace negotiation with the central government and there have been reports that a settlement with the insurgent group is possible in near future. One of the key demands of the NSCN-IM is integration of Naga-inhabited areas of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Manipur.
Responding to a query regarding Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s assurance to his Assam counterpart that territorial integrity of Assam would not be compromised at any cost, he said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP National president Amit Shah had already made the same promise to Manipur as well during campaigning of the last Assembly election.
The Chief Minister also said that he has the trust in the leadership of the current Union Government. However, the State Government would directly approach the Central Government if any suspicious move surfaces in.
During the Beti Bachao - Beti Padhao Spot Painting Competition organised by State Level Committee on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and State Social Welfare Department, he informed that the State Government is planning to announce a welfare scheme for BPL families belonging to OBC during his proposed Chandel visit on November 4 next.
Despite women’s immense contributions in all spheres including social movements in Manipur, he said women are still discriminated up to some extent in Manipuri society. He called upon the public to give due respect and care the womenfolk especially mothers.
Social Welfare Minister Nemcha Kipgen, in her speech urged the public to take a pledge to put in joint effort to improve Child Sex Ratio as a National priority agenda.
A special attraction of the function was giving the opportunity of taking selfie with the Chief Minister to selected girl students. Later, the dignitaries led by the Chief Minister distributed prizes of the spot painting competition. Rajya Sabha MP Ksh Bhabananda, Commissioner (Social Welfare, YAS and Higher Education) H Deleep and Social Welfare Director Jacintha Lazarus also attended the day’s function.
