DIMAPUR — The Tenyimi Union Dimapur (TUD) has urged the Government of Manipur and the Government of India to take immediate and appropriate measures to secure the safe release of six individuals who have reportedly been held hostage by a Kuki militant group since May 13, 2026.
In a press release, the union expressed concern that failure to address the issue promptly and effectively could lead to increased public unrest and further strain relations between the Naga and Kuki communities.
It stressed the importance of all stakeholders exercising restraint and pursuing a peaceful resolution through dialogue and lawful means.
Condemning the reported abduction of six Naga men by suspected Kuki militants, the union demanded their immediate and unconditional release.
It also called on the concerned authorities to take all necessary steps to ensure their safe return at the earliest.
The union stated that several Kuki settlements are located within areas traditionally inhabited by the Tenyimi people and reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the rights, interests and security of the Tenyimi community.

It cautioned against any actions that could lead to encroachment, violence or harm against any community, warning that such developments could further aggravate tensions and undermine peace and stability in the region.
Further, the union resolved that any escalation, encroachment or unlawful activity within the ancestral lands of the Tenyimi people by any group or individual would not be tolerated.
The TUD also urged the authorities to act decisively, impartially and in accordance with the law to ensure the safety of all concerned and maintain communal harmony in the region.
Meanwhile, the TUD and its frontal organisations extended solidarity to the Naga people in Manipur amid the ongoing hardships caused by loss of lives, displacement and suffering.
The union reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights, security and welfare of affected families and communities.
NSCN/GPRN (Khango–Vusshe) urges dialogue
The NSCN/GPRN (Khango–Vusshe) has expressed concern over the continuing violence and communal tensions arising from the ongoing conflict between the Kuki and Southern Naga communities in Manipur.
In a statement, the group said reports of killings, abductions, forced displacement and attacks on essential services were deeply disturbing.
It condemned the killing, abduction and other acts of violence targeting innocent civilians, which it said had destroyed homes and livelihoods and torn families and communities apart.
The NSCN/GPRN stated that the repeated targeting of civilians had created fear, instability and immense hardship in the region.
It emphasised that the protection of civilians must remain a priority and called for the lives, safety and dignity of non-combatants to be safeguarded at all times.
The group further demanded that those responsible for the killings and abductions of innocent civilians be promptly identified and held accountable through transparent and impartial investigations.
According to the statement, immediate measures must be taken to prevent further reprisals, communal polarisation and a cycle of retaliatory attacks that could prolong suffering and destabilise the region.
Calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities, the NSCN/GPRN urged community leaders and relevant authorities to re-engage in direct and mediated dialogue to address grievances and restore peace.
It also appealed to the concerned authorities to act impartially, ensure the protection of civilians and prevent vested interests from further inflaming the situation.
While acknowledging that the grievances underlying the conflict are complex and rooted in issues of identity and governance, the NSCN/GPRN maintained that the targeted killing and abduction of civilians can never be justified under any circumstances.
