Dimapur, Sep. 17 (EMN): The Tenyimi Students’ Union (TSU) of Dimapur Government College conducted a freshers’ meet and social get-together programme on September 15 at Land Resource Centre, Ruzaphema in Dimapur, a press release from TSU informed on Monday.
The event is a yearly affair in which students from different tribes belonging to Tenyimi community come together for a social meeting. The objective was to foster unity and peace within the community.
Sub-Divisional Officer of Public Health and Engineering Department, Medziphema, Ichirang Zeliang attended the event as special guest. Addressing the students, he said that unity has always been the goal for any community. It is unity that can drive any community or organisation forward and is the crux of progress, he added.
However, Ichirang urged the students to not turn unity into ‘isms’ saying that many college students happen to be involved in communalism. He asked the students to live in unity within the community, while at the same time respecting the unity of the other communities and to live as one with them.
Further, he also highlighted about sanitation and development. He urged the students to be the agents in promoting the importance of sanitation stating that it is the most essential part towards the development of the society. He asked the students to teach people by example and said that they are the future of the society.
