A consultative meeting of Tenyimi legislators and Tenyimi People’s Organization (TPO) convened by Chief Minister TR Zeliang at his official residence today agreed to amicably settle the land dispute between SAPO and Moa Council according to Naga customary law and land holding system.
Zeliang said, the ongoing land dispute is a genuine problem and it should be resolved according to the customary practices. He said, Dzukuo area should be preserved as it is a resource for all the Tenyimi people in particular and Naga people in general.
“The land dispute is between two Naga communities (Tenyimi) and it should be settled without outside intervention. Government is not ignoring the issue but wants the tribes to settle the matter amicably within the Tenyimi family as per customary practices and traditional land holding system of the Nagas, he said.
Zeliang urged the TPO which has been entrusted to tackle the issue to see that the matter is settled as per customary practices with historical facts. He said that everything should come to a conclusion.
“I am confident that through TPO’s initiative a conclusion will be drawn for the greater interest of Naga people.”
Respective presidents from APO (Angami Public Organization), CPO (Chakasang Public Organization), MPO (Mao Public Organization) and several others spoke at the meeting and expressed their agreement to settle the dispute according to Naga customary law. Several Tenyimi legislators also highlighted their opinions and views on the issue and expressed the hope that the issue will be settled amicably if the public, elected public leaders come together and show their solidarity.
