
Resource persons and pig farmers during the training
programme on March 26.
- DIMAPUR — The
Tenyi Vo Conservation Centre, under ICAR-AICRP on Pig, Nagaland Centre, NU-SAS,
Medziphema Campus, successfully conducted the “Tenyi Vo Pig Management
Training-Cum-Inputs Distribution Programme” under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) on
March 26.
- The programme was chaired by Prof. M Catherine Rutsa, in
charge of the pig project, who extended a warm welcome to the participating pig
farmers and acknowledged their interest in Tenyi Vo pig breeding in Nagaland.
- An update, received here on Friday, stated that Prof.
Nizamuddin, Head of the Department of Livestock Production and Management, addressed
the gathering and congratulated the farmers for their active role in preserving
and promoting the indigenous Tenyi Vo pig breed. He encouraged them to further
contribute to breeding efforts and work towards increasing the population of
the indigenous breed in the state.
- The training programme included technical sessions conducted
by resource persons Dr. Joshua Kath, Dr. Sedeneinuo Suohu, Dr. Harshit Kumar,
and Dr. M Catherine Rutsa, who provided insights into best practices in pig
management.
- As part of the programme, inputs such as vaccine carriers,
worm medicines, first aid drugs, gumboots, hammers, and pig feeds were
distributed to all 95 Scheduled Tribe pig farmers in attendance. Additionally,
two breeding Tenyi Vo male pigs, funded by ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Jharnapani, were
handed over to two pig breeders from Medziphema and Nachama village.
- During the feedback session, participants including Kavito
Chishi and Ruokuohe-ü Miachieo expressed their appreciation for the initiative
and emphasised the need for regular training to keep them updated on evolving
pig management techniques and disease control measures, the update stated.
