IMPHAL, April 11
Ten people including police commando personnel were injured and one house and around nine shops set ablaze following a violent clash erupted between two groups of people over killing of two boys in Mayang Imphal area under Imphal West on Monday. The district administration has imposed Section 144 at Mayang Imphal Konchak and Mayang Imphal bazaar following the incident that took place around 10 am. Tension continued to prevail in the area where security has been beefed up, officials said.
The officials said police force from Thoubal, Imphal East, Bishnupur and Imphal West districts are being deployed in the area to control the situation. Movement of fire tenders was choked for nearly one hour by a large number of locals, preventing them from entering the site to douse the blaze. Two local and one commando personnel of Imphal West Police sustained bullet injuries in the violence. The civilians were identified as Thongam Birjit of Mayang Imphal Thongkhong and Khumukcham Ashajit of Mayang Imphal Konchak while the police personnel from Imphal West Police was identified as Heisnam Ranjit.
