Dimapur, July 8 (EMN): Construction works for a temporary bridge near Longchem—after heavy rains had caused damages to the Liangmen Bridge—will begin in two days, according to the EAC of Longchem subdivision Athrong Quinker.
The officer met the executive engineer (EE) of Mangkolemba on Monday and went for a spot verification together. Traffic across the bridge will remain closed till the completion of works.
The EE also prepared preliminary estimates for a Bailey bridge, with the target to start construction by this year. The EAC has called for a meeting on Tuesday with the president of JSS and the council chairmen of villages affected by the cut-off.
The wooden bridge, which functions as a lifeline for many villages under Longchem in Mokokchung district, was damaged on July 7 morning following weeks of incessant heavy rain.
According to people from the region, this is the fourth time in three years that the bridge has been damaged.
