DIMAPUR — The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) 29 Jangpetkong Assembly Constituency held a general consultative meeting at Nokyu Salang, Mangkolemba, where officials for the tenure 2025–27 were nominated in the presence of MLA and Advisor for Transport and Technical Education, Temjenmenba.
According to an update on the occasion, several key decisions were also adopted to strengthen the party at the grassroots level.
Speaking at the meeting, Temjenmenba expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and NDPP State President Chingwang Konyak for allotting him the party ticket to contest the 2018 assembly election.
He recalled that his election campaign started late, just four months before the election, and that he was quite new in the political field. However, with the wholehearted support of the CM, the NDPP state president, the 29 Jangpetkong NDPP leaders, the general public, and the grace of God, he could win the election with a significant majority, said Temjenmenba.
Nonetheless, he admitted that since he was new to politics, he was in the learning process for the past two years and might have neglected the party workers while trying to focus on development in the constituency.
He asserted that, with the support and goodwill of Rio, he could bring development to almost all the units – except one, which will be looked after next – through the LADP fund.
The MLA said that August 23 might be the most important day in the NDPP 29 Jangpetkong AC, as it marked a new chapter where a new tenure started and also signified the revamp and strengthening of the party.
He highlighted the works of the chief minister and pointed out the recent visits to different countries and the signing of an MoU with Japan to promote youth empowerment. He also cited the activities of the Task Force for Music and Arts and the focus on sports to promote youth, saying that the NDPP and the state government are fully focused on youth, as they are the future of Nagaland.
On strengthening the party, he urged the NDPP 29 Jangpetkong AC officials to focus on the units at the village level and strengthen them since the party units are the foot soldiers of the party who ultimately elect the legislators. He also urged party leaders who might be members or officials in different NGOs to differentiate the work of a political party leader from that of an NGO so that they might not hamper the workings of the government but rather stand as a strong pillar supporting the developmental programmes of the state government.
He acknowledged the different needs of the constituency, especially in Mangkolemba headquarters, such as the lack of doctors in the hospital, absence of government officers, and poor roads. He assured that all the issues had been shared with the Chief Minister and other cabinet ministers and that the issues would be addressed within his term as MLA.
MLA Temjenmenba also supported an agenda to conduct a free medical camp at Mangkolemba and assured all help in making the camp a success.
In his presidential address, Aodangnok, who was re-nominated as 29 Jangpetkong AC president, encouraged all party workers to give their best as they start a new chapter to revamp and strengthen the party. He said that it was not a time to remain lackadaisical but rather to be rejuvenated since Temjenmenba is working hard in bringing development to the constituency and more is expected in the days to come.
Others who spoke at the meeting were NDPP Secretary for the Mokokchung Region and In-charge of 29 Jangpetkong AC, Lanumeren; Working President for 29 Jangpetkong AC, Imtiakum; president of the women’s organisation for NDPP 29 Jangpetkong; and president of the youth organisation for NDPP 29 Jangpetkong.
