Dimapur, May 19 (EMN): Under “food safety on wheels for food testing on the go,” team of officials from the state government had conducted a test against adulterants on food items for the safety of the public.
The team was led by Himato Zhimomi, commissioner and secretary cum commissioner for food safety, along with Dr. Obangjungla, deputy director; Dr. K Vikato Kinimi, chief medical officer, Dimapur; Dr. Khesheto Zhimo, medical superintendent, District Hospital Dimapur; Dr. Antoly, deputy CMO; Dr. Rebecca, DPO (RCH/UIP); Sendong Jamir, FSO Dimapur; Samuel, FSO Phek; Khrukutolu Veswuh, food analyst of State Public Health Laboratory.
The team had visited New Market’s fish market and fruit stalls where samples for testing were acquired. Himato stated that testing for adulterants on food items was conducted for the safety of the public. He remarked that the public were paying a high price for food items and also paying dearly with their health by consuming food items tainted with adulterants.
The testing conducted by the team of food safety on wheels is a preliminary spot testing of food items for standard confirmation under the FSSAI rules and regulations. The food safety on wheels will serve as a mobile food testing unit and will be used to for public education and for conducting awareness programmes.
A mobile lab will have fully functional testing facilities that could be used for quick qualitative testing and for detection of common adulterants in foods and to spread awareness of food safety and hygiene, it was informed.
