Teachers’ institute celebrates founding day

[/caption]   Dimapur, March 1: Modern Institute of Teacher Education (MITE), in Kohima town, celebrated its 6th founding day besides a coinciding event ‘Cultural Day’ on March 1. The institution issued a press release on Wednesday informing about the event. The programme was organized by other clubs of the institution in the college’s auditorium. Kaikho Losii, dean of Modern College was the guest of honour for the event. Speaking to the gathering about the significance of the event, Pelee Hekha, the managing director of MITE, narrated the journey of the institute since its foundation on March 1 2012. He emphasized on the need to ‘bring’ quality education as envisioned by the founder of the Institute Late Dr S. Hekha Mao. ‘Education can penetrate every nook and corner in building a better future,’ the press release quoted him as having stated. In his formal address, guest of honour Kaikho Losii saidf that every student and teacher ‘should be proud of the institute as the institute is one of the best in Nagaland producing excellent results consistently.’ He encouraged the students to have a thirst for knowledge to ‘bridge the broken society.’ The second session began with a speech on the topic ‘Our Culture Our Identity’ delivered by R. Mangam Konyak. Every account of culture defines one’s identity, she said. The celebration was also marked by dramas on child labour and corruption besides a ‘special item’ by MITEANS ROCK, the press release stated. A show on modern attire also depicted the Naga culture. Another special item which marked the day was a live performance by James Basnet and the Band, the organisers informed.
