Diphu, Feb. 26 (EMN): Teaching and non-teaching staff comprising 241 from higher secondary schools, high schools and ME schools in Karbi Anglong demonstrated in front of Semson Sing Ingti Memorial Park on Feb. 26. The rally was held under the banner of Karbi Anglong Venture Schools Association (KAVSA) demanding provincialisation of their schools as per the Non Government Educational (R&M) Act of 2006.
The teachers attending the demonstration told that schools getting affiliation from Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA) on or before January 1, 2006, were provincialised by the state government. It was informed that only 47 high schools, 84 ME schools and 15 LP schools got provincialised by the state government under this act from the two hill districts of Karbi Anglong.
There are about 120 high schools, 20 higher secondary schools and 101 ME schools, which received recognition from Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) and getting grant-in-aid from time to time were waiting for provincialisation from the state government. These schools should also be included in the Non Government Educational (R&M) Act, 2006 for their provincialistion, the teachers demanded.
A memorandum addressed to the state education minister, Himanta Biswas Sharma through the deputy commissioner, Karbi Anglong, was submitted. The memorandum copy was also handed to CEM, KAAC, Tuliram Ronghang.
KAVSA, in their memorandum, stated that all elementary and secondary educational institutions established before 2006 and received KAAC permission or recognition should be covered under Non Government Educational (R&M) Act, 20016, for provincialisation. KAVSA also reminded to the state government that both elementary and secondary education is an inherent and transferred subjects to the KAAC and that all elementary and secondary schools receiving financial recognition from KAAC before the Non Government Educational Institution Act, 2006 should be covered under the act.
KAVSA president, Shantiram Terang, and the secretary, Kamaleswar Rongpi, led the members in submitting the memorandum.
