Dimapur, September 3 : The chief minister of Nagaland, TR Zeliang, celebrates with the teaching community on Teachers’ Day. The chief minister’s office issued a message on Saturday calling the occasion “special occasion when the nation pays its homage and respect to our teachers.” However, the chief minister admitted soberly, that for societies “like ours” the “best and brightest people” may have to wait for a while. “Teaching is one of the oldest and most respected professions ever since the beginning of civilization. It is the teachers who mold (sic) and shape, not only their students, but also the future of the society and the nation,” the message, forwarded through the DIPR, read.
The message read: ‘Hence, it is natural that in most of the advanced countries, only the best and brightest people in the society are selected for the teaching profession. Although, in less developed and developing societies like ours, such high level of selectivity for the teaching profession may not be possible now, but that should be our goal, if we really meant to build an advanced and humane society.’ Greeting the teachers, Zeliang has urged them to work with ‘renewed energy and dedication to “build a prosperous and just society we dreamt for.”
NSF wants teachers to be ‘more sincere and committed’
The Naga Students’ Federation also issued a message on the day expressing gratitude to teachers. “It is well said that teacher are the backbone of the society and the builder of a nation. The growth and development of an individual, society and country is solely depend on the quality of education impart by a good teacher,” the NSF’s message stated.
However, while paying tribute to teachers for their “selfless and precious effort in shaping our future,” the federation “further urges upon the teachers to be more sincere and committed in their duties and continue to motivate the students so as to be successful in their life.”
The organization has wished the teaching community success in their lives.
