Kohima, Sep. 3 (EMN): India celebrates Teachers' Day every year on September 5 to appreciate and honour them for their special contributions towards education by imparting knowledge to students.

Different countries celebrate the occasion on different dates and India observes it on September 5 to commemorate the birth anniversary of the country’s second President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was a philosopher, scholar and a politician, and known for his dedication towards education.

During the occasion, the nation celebrates the unique contribution of some of the finest teachers in the country by giving away National Teacher Award. Outstanding teachers are also awarded at the state and district levels during the event.
