
MOKOKCHUNG — The 62nd Teacher’s Day celebration-cum-felicitation of awardees of District Teacher’s Award, organised by the Ao Students’ Conference (AKM), was held at Whispering Winds, Mokokchung town.
Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Thsuvisie Phoji, in his address, said that teachers have been the main pillars of society since time immemorial and that they continue to “shape our present and our future.”
“The fruit of labours that teachers have put in has produced many great men and women, therefore continue to be the pole star for the students and the people who go beyond the four walls of your classroom in shaping a better society,” the DC said.
District Education Officer (DEO), Mokokchung, Sentinungla, also iterated that one of the biggest challenges faced by contemporary society is the deterioration of values and degradation of the character of the people.
The DEO was of the view that schools and institutions should play a pivotal role in bringing up good citizens who uphold the principles of honesty, integrity and gratitude.
Maintaining that there is no substitute for quality education, Sentinungla said that “we can build a better nation through quality education because it is crucial for the students in achieving human development, social progress and economic enhancement in our society.”
She further said that students are expected to acquire a range of skills that will allow them to understand the social, political, organisational, technological and economic complexities, which they will encounter in their later life and careers.
President of ANPSA Mokokchung Unit, Dr Anungla Aier, also spoke at the event.
Meanwhile, DC Mokokchung also gave away the District Teacher’s Award to four teachers. The awardees are Imkongyabang PT from GHS Saring, Imojungla GT from GHS Sumi, Bendangakum HT from GMS Changtongya “A” and S Bendangla Ao from Children School.
