IMPHAL — Condemning the “false allegation and violent assault” on a senior consultant, the Teachers’ and Medical Officers’ Association (TAMOA) of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Imphal, resolved to shut down all services of RIMS including emergency, outpatient department and routine operations with immediate effect till the culprits are booked, punished and safe working environment is ensured.
The TAMOA also demanded the RIMS authority to lodge an FIR against the culprits and take up legal actions.

The TAMOA demanded an assurance of safety for the healthcare providers in the RIMS complex and inquiry into the security lapses of RIMS.
The association said that normal duty will be resumed only when the working environment becomes safe and conducive.
Meanwhile, the RIMS authority mourned the untimely demise of Chingshubam Ongbi Manju (35) of Lilong Chajing, who passed away at RIMS Hospital on Sunday following complications after a surgical delivery, and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
“However, the incident has triggered widespread outrage among relatives and locals, who staged a protest demanding accountability from the hospital authorities, the RIMS media cell stated in a press release on Sunday.
“During the agitation, a professor of RIMS was assaulted and hospital property was vandalized. While the sentiments of the family and community are understood, it must be emphasised that damaging public property, manhandling medical professionals, and resorting to violence are unlawful acts. Such actions not only hamper essential healthcare services but may also invite legal consequences under the relevant laws.”
Condemning the assault on the RIMS professor and the vandalism of hospital property, the RIMS authority assured that the matter will be reviewed with utmost seriousness, and necessary steps taken to ascertain facts and address grievances in a lawful manner.
It also appealed to all sections of society to maintain peace, respect public institutions, and extend cooperation in resolving the matter through appropriate legal and administrative channels.
