MOKOKCHUNG — The Department of Health, in collaboration with Youth Resources and Sports, Mokokchung, conducted a series of tuberculosis (TB) awareness campaigns and screenings on June 29 and the 30th, across the district, engaging communities, cadets, and battalion personnel in a concerted effort to combat the disease.

On June 29, an awareness programme at Yajang C Baptist Church educated attendees on TB transmission, symptoms, prevention, and treatment options. Experts emphasised early detection and adherence to treatment, dispelling myths and encouraging community participation in TB eradication. The event saw strong attendance from local residents, who actively engaged with health professionals on effective management strategies.

Simultaneously, a TB awareness campaign and active case finding initiative was held at the 13 IR Battalion headquarters, Yajang C. The programme focused on raising awareness among battalion personnel, promoting active case identification to curb the spread of TB. Health experts provided insights into recognising symptoms and the importance of timely medical intervention, fostering a proactive approach among the participants.

On June 30, a sensitisation programme and screening was organised at the 25 NCC Battalion, Mokokchung, targeting young cadets. The session highlighted TB prevention, treatment adherence, and the role of youth in spreading awareness. Cadets were educated on debunking misconceptions, with practical screenings reinforcing the need for early diagnosis.

The campaigns aimed to inform communities about TB’s impact, promote early diagnosis, and encourage adherence to treatment protocols. By addressing common myths, the initiatives sought to reduce stigma and enhance community-driven efforts toward TB eradication. Health officials expressed optimism about the impact of such initiatives, urging sustained community involvement to ensure effective TB management and prevention across the district.
