Dimapur, March 31 (EMN): Tizit Area Students’ Union (TASU) has threatened resorting to indefinite blockade on Namtola-Mon road with effect from April 10 if the State government fails to fulfil its demand within the stipulated period.
TASU president Manpang Wangyen and the general secretary Tahkai Wangsahum mentioned that it had issued press release on March 22, 2014, urging the district administration the and State government to start construction of Tizit-Namtola (Pongma River) Bridge with the already sanctioned amount of Rs 17,61,00,099 (seventeen crore sixty one lakh and ninety nine) to M/s National Construction Co. which is yet to be started. It said the aged- old British made bridge is at the brink of collapsing.
TASU had also written an appeal letter to the Deputy Commissioner Mon for his intervention on the deteriorated Namtola — Mon road on May 1, 2014, to which only a meagre amount of Rs 10, 00,000 was sanctioned for sand gravelling.
TASU had also issued a press release on September 23, 2016, regarding the Namtola-Mon road funded under for repairing, ISC road (Tizit to Nokzang) for completion and Tizit Nokyan (13 km) road under PM’s package (2014-2015) for completion. In addition, an appeal letter was also sent to the chief minister’s office through the Deputy Commissioner, Mon, on October 3, 2016. It may be noted that the Namtola-Mon road has been neglected for nearly two decades which is the lifeline for the entire district.
Further, TASU had written a letter in January 2017 to the chief minister through the Deputy Commissioner, Mon, mentioning about all its previous appeals and press releases demanding the State government to respond at the earliest.
In the light of the above stated circumstances, TASU urged the government to start construction of all weather Namtola-Mon road, Tizit-Namtola (Pongma River) RCC Bridge, Tizit Nokyan (13 km) road PM’s package (2014-2015) and NEC (Tizit Longding) road repairing.
It also mentioned that the lone Government Higher Secondary School is still running in a pathetic condition at the worned out building structure which was actually constructed for girls hostel. It said no GHSS building has been constructed at Tizit in spite of several appeals and memorandum submitted to the government for the construction of the same.
It expressed surprised that no steps have been initiated till date from the authorities concerned and not even verbal or written response.
In the light of the above stated circumstances, TASU threatened to launch an indefinite blockade on Namtola-Mon road beginning from April 10 till its demands are fulfilled by the State government.
