DIMAPUR — Various civil society organisations (CSOs) of Tamlu area in Longleng district have alleged large-scale irregularities in the Directorate of School Education (DoSE), accusing the department of manipulating student enrolment data and carrying out unjustified teacher transfers that have left several schools understaffed and some on the verge of closure.
In a joint press release, the organisations—including village councils, students’ and women’s bodies from Kangching, Namsang, Anaki, and Tamlu—claimed that the department has “tampered with school enrolment data” in the Teachers Attendance Monitoring System (TAMS) 2025, allegedly lowering figures to justify the transfer of teachers “with post” from rural schools.
The CSOs alleged that this manipulation has led to severe teacher shortages in many government schools, disrupting academic activities and depriving students of their constitutional right to basic education.
They cited several examples where teachers, including subject specialists in English, Hindi, Science, and Mathematics, were transferred along with their sanctioned posts despite repeated appeals from the affected schools.
Orders issued between February 2025 and October 2025 reportedly resulted in multiple transfers from Government Middle Schools in Tamlu Town, Tamlu Village, and Anaikhai Phom Khel, as well as from Government High School Kangching.
They stated that schools such as GHS Buranamsang and GHS Tamlu Khel have been running without English, Hindi, and Science teachers for several years.
Despite numerous representations, the department has not redeployed teachers, the organisations said.
Demanding clarification as well as accountability from DoSE, they questioned who is responsible for the mass reduction of student enrolment and the alleged tampering of records.
They warned that if the department fails to rectify the issue and restore teachers to the affected schools, they will be compelled to initiate a protest, including the closure of all schools under Tamlu jurisdiction.
