Expressing resentment against non execution of 39 km Tamenglong- Khongsang Road in Manipur, the frontal organizations of Tamenglong on Wednesday reaffirmed to boycott the forth coming Republic day celebration in the district headquarters, about 150 km west of Imphal.
The re-affirmation to boycott the Republic Day function came out during the joint meeting of frontal organizations Tamenglong held under the aegis of Joint Forum for Transport Welfare Association Tamenglong at IB PWD Tamenglong in connection with the deplorable condition of Tamenglong- Khongsang road which is the life line of Tamenglong district.
During a joint inspection trip on wednesday organized by Joint Forum for Transport Welfare Association Tamenglong no woker was found along the road except, newly cut jungles on road side.
The road has worsened day by day and leaving behind the road endanger for passenger vehicle and carrying essential ommodities for the district.
It may be mentioned here that the the Ministry of Road Transfer & Highways, Govt of India had accepted e- tender of M/s Woodhill Infrastructure Limited a Uttar Pradesh for execution, completion and maintenance of the work of the route.
The said Ministry had even sanctioned Rs. 13,23,91,325 for Temporary Restoration of Tamenglong- Khongsang road since 2012.However, no step has been taken up so far,the meeting claimed.
On December 4 last year, the district administration in the presence of National Highway Infrastructure Development Co-operation Ltd. (NHIDC Ltd.), frontal organizations leaders of Tamenglong general public flagged off to start the construction work of temporary restoration of Tamenglong- Khongsang road.
But it has been halted till today. With no option left truck driver and owner association Tamenglong, Auto Rickshaw Association Tamenglong, Assam Rifles, etc has been repairing the road and plying their vehicles at risk.
Demanding for road repairing and road construction of Tamenglong-Khongsang road series of bandhs, strikes has been passed and many memorandums have been submitted to the concerned authority, DM Joseph, Secretary of Joint Forum for Transport Welfare Association Tamenglong said.
