Kohima, Dec 15: A week-long 50th anniversary celebrations of Sechü Zubza Youth Organisation (SZYO) culminated today at WAPO ground, Sechü Zubza. The closing programme, which coincided with the SZYO 50th day, was graced by Neiphiu Rio, Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha, as the special guest.
Addressing the gathering, Rio congratulated SZYO on attaining 50th glorious years and for the numerous achievements made during the last fifty years.
He was appreciative that the youth came together in unison to compete in various games and sports during the 50th anniversary celebrations which kicked started on December 9.
Rio called upon the youth to partake in games and sports with sincerity and commitment so that they make sports a profession.
Stating that the Naga youth are yet to gain recognition at the national and international level, he called upon the sportspersons for total commitment in sports so that they reach the top.
“The government is all out to nurture the talents of the Naga youth and promote games and sports in the State,” Rio said adding the government is there to provide assistance and support all the time.
On the day, Lok Sabha MP also unveiled the SZYO 50th anniversary monolith, which was dedicated by Pastor Khriengulie Kuotsu, Sechii Zubza Baptist Church.
The programme, chaired by Petevi Meyase, convenor organising committee, commenced with invocation pronounced by Catechist Medolepra Rion, Sechü Zubza Catholic Church.
SZYO president Megoneituo Kielienyii delivered the presidential address, while SZVC chairman Mhasikhotuo Zhiinyii, shared greetings.
T Jalie Kielienyii, former president SZYO, pronounced the elderly blessings, while another former president Seyievilhou Sirie spoke on the occasion. The vote of thanks was tendered by SZYO advisor, Vitsiakho Meyase.
It may be mentioned that SZYO 50th anniversary celebration commenced on December 9 with Kiyanilie Peseyie, Minister for Social Welfare and Parliamentary Affairs, as the chief guest.
The sports events concluded on December 14. Liezha ‘A’ colony emerged as the overall champions, while Liezha ‘A’ lifted the first ever Zekho Vakha Memorial Trophy by winning the men’s football. They defeated Kherüthi ‘A’ Colony in the final.
In men’s football, Liezha ‘B’ Colony emerged champions by lifting the Zaselhoutuo Sechü Memorial Trophy, while Liezha ‘B’ lifted the Siroko Meyase Memorial Trophy by winning the women’s volleyball.
In men’s cricket, Tsurü Colony defeated Liezha ‘B’ Colony to emerge as the winners.
