DIMAPUR, MARCH 27
After decades of living in the shadows, afraid to venture out due to the rising crimes against women, the fairer sex are now getting a chance to literally kick off their fears and face their future head on. Credit for this dramatic transformation goes to Faith in Action Taekwondo Academy, Nagaland headed by Master Deep Kumar, International Instructor and Examiner, who along with his instructors are doing their community services.
Faith in Action Taekwondo Academy has imparted one week free taekwondo training camp from March 23 to the students of Pranabananda Women’s College, Dimapur for the self defence of girl students.
While admitting that the present situation compels them to introduce martial arts for the girl students, Narola Ao, Vice Principal, Pranabananda Women’s College said that the college may introduce martial arts as a full time course for all the students in future. “I think it (compulsory martial arts for girls) has become necessity this days as the crime against women is increasing day by day”, Ao said.
Expressing gratitude to Faith in Action Taekwondo Academy for providing free training to the girl students, Ao said she will talk to the college management for regular martial arts classes for her students.
Danlean Phom, a BA Final Year student, who was one of the trainees in this taekwondo camp, said, “For the first time such thing (knowledge about self defence) comes in our life. It is very necessary and also encouraging for us”. She said that she look forward to enroll herself as a full time student of Taekwondo.
Sharing her experience Donching Chang, BA second year pupil of the college has said that Faith in Action Taekwondo Academy has helped them to keep their body and mind fit both physically and mentally. “Earlier we need brothers or male friends to accompany us if we have any schedule in the evening. Now we are ready to face any challenges after we got this basic training in self defence”, she pompously said. “We are not scared any more for anything”, she further added.
Another modeler, Kihikali K Sumi, Miss Sumi, while stressing on the importance of martial arts among the girls said, “Being a model it (martial arts) is a thing we should practice. Wherever we go we can face any challenges”.
Faith in Action Taekwondo Academy will be imparting another training camp to SD Jain College after Easter holiday. The free training may most probably begin from April 7, said Master Deep Kumar.
It may be worth to mention that the academy has been giving course to Hope Academy, St Thomas, St. Mary Higher Secondary School, Honili Memorial School. Besides, they have clubs at Dimapur Club, PWD Colony and main head quarter at Immanuel Hall, Y Zhimo Colony, Signal Basti, Dimapur with a hostel facility. They too have their branches spread in Assam and Tripura.
