Dimapur, April 25 (EMN): As part of mega mock drill to be conducted on April 26, a table top exercise on Nagaland Emergency Preparedness Exercise (NEPEx), was conducted across the districts on April 25.
The exercise for Kohima district was held in the deputy commissioner’s conference hall in Kohima.
An update from DIPR informed that during an interaction with unit members for the mega mock drill, the chairman of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Kohima, Rajesh Soundararajan, called on the teams to extend cooperation and to discharge their roles and responsibilities in creating awareness to the general public on how to prepared oneself during the occurrence of natural calamities.
The chairman informed that the main staging area for mock emergency preparedness exercise for the district will be set up at Kohima Village Local, Relief Camp at Kohima Arts College and Control room at DC office. The other locations for the exercise will be at Christ King School, Mezhur Higher Secondary School, Directorate of Art Culture, Directorate of Employment Skill and Development, Directorate of Youth Resources and Sports, Directorate of Education, SIRD, Naga hospital, Oking hospital, Bethel hospital and Kohima hospital. The exercise will begin at 10 am.
Longleng: the table top exercise for Lonleng district was held on April 25 in the deputy commissioner’s conference hall.
The deputy commissioner of Longleng, John Tsulise Sangtam highlighted about the table top exercise and the practical aspects of mega mock drill to be held on April 26. He informed that the Assam Rifles will be the observer of the NEPEx. Officers were also informed that defaulting departments will be reported to the higher authority.
DPA, DDMA Theja briefed on the directions and guidelines of the NSDMA and infromed that three locations namely St. Joseph School, Phom Lampong School and old Treasury office have been identified for conduct of the NEPEx.
After the discussions and briefing on various respective activities of the line departments, DC has directed the DPRO to give wide announcement in the town for the people to be aware of the mock drill and to avoid panic during the exercise. It was also decided to closure of shops and business establishment when the siren bell was sounded and to remain closed till the mock drill exercise was over.
Peren: Peren district administration also conducted a table top exercise at the town hall in Peren town on April 25 with incidents response system, operation section, planning section, logistic section etc.
In the introductory speech, ADC Peren, Chubawati Chang said that any kind of disaster usually occurs without any signs of warning aand that the only solution is to be prepared.
The resource persons were Vishal, SDPO Peren and extra assistant commissioners of Peren Yanthungbemo and Angunuo Mere.
Also, a review meeting of NEPEx was held at ATI on April 26 led by secretary of Home Department, Rovilatuo.
During the meeting, joint advisor (Ops), NDMA Dhirendra Singh Sindhu said that the mock drill will be held simultaneously in three North-East States- Nagaland, Mizoram and Tripura on April 26 simulating the scenario of Shillong earthquake 1897 with 8.7 magnitude and epicentre designated at main boundary thrust near Shillong. He also said that the mock drill is to test the adequacy and efficiency of the emergency response plan and the roles and responsibilities that need to be carried out by different stake holders.
Speaking on behalf of the police department, DGP Nagaland, Rupin Sharma (IPS) suggested that some key roads of Kohima, Dimapur and Mokokchung will be blocked during the drill to stimulate real time disaster. He also said the mock drill will test how vibrant and effective the State's system is. The DGP informed public not to panic but to cooperate during the drill. He further suggested that the AHoDs and HoDs should brief their departmental staff.
Fire and Emergency Services, Home Guards & Civil Defense, Food & Civil Supplies, Transport, Airport, Agriculture, Health & Family Welfare, Information & Public Relation, Urban Development, Election Office, School Education, Dr. Ato from KOHIMAS Hospital, BSF, Assam Rifles, NDRF, and Assam observer presented on their status of preparedness.
