Former Jharkhand Governor Syed Ahmed has been sworn in as the 16th Governor of Manipur at Banquet Hall of Raj Bhavan in Imphal on Saturday afternoon.Chief Justice of Manipur High Court Justice Laxmi Kanta Mohapatra administered the oath of office and secrecy to the new governor of Manipur. Earlier the new Governor also inspected a guard of honour. Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam his council of minister, MLAs from both ruling and opposition parties, former Chief minister Rishang Keishing, Janata Dal (U) state unit president M Tombi,top officials of the state government led by the Chief secretary PC Lawmkunga, DGP Manipur Saheed Ahmed and other senior citizens also attended the day’s simple swearing in ceremony which was held at 3pm.
Seventy year old new governor Syed Ahmed who replaced the outgoing Governor Dr KK Paul, will serve as Manipur Governor for the rest of his term till September next year. Ahmed who once hold additional charge of Kerala, was appointed as 8th Governor of Jharkhand on September 4, 2011 by the then President Pratibha Patel.
Governor Syed Ahmed, a former congress Lok Sabha member from Mumbai's Nagpada constituency, expressed gratitude for the warm welcome shown to him when he was arrived here at the Imphal International airport for the swearing in ceremony on Friday.He was received by Chief Minister and his council of ministers.
The swearing of the new Governor, a doctorate in urdu, was necessitated after Dr Krishna Kant Paul who took Manipur Governor’s charge on September 15 last year, was sworn in as Governor of Uttarakhand on January 8 this year.
