Imphal, March 13 (EMN): The formal oath taking ceremony of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly will be held at the Assembly hall in Imphal at 11 am on Monday.
On Sunday, Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) elected candidate Sorokhaibam Rajen Singh was sworn in as member-elect of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly.
S Rajen Singh was sworn in as the person before whom newly elected members of the Manipur Legislative Assembly would make and subscribe an oath of affirmation until a Speaker of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly is elected.
Manipur Governor La Ganesan administered the oath of office and secrecy to S Rajen Singh, who was elected from Lamsang assembly constituency.
“Now, therefore, the elected members of the Twelfth Manipur Legislative Assembly are requested to attend the ceremony for subscribing oath or affirmation in the Assembly hall at the aforesaid date and time,” Secretary of Manipur Legislative Assembly K Meghajit Singh stated a bulletin ,which was made available here on Sunday.
“Further, Hon'ble Members are requested to bring the original certificate of election issued to them by the concerned returning officers.”
It may be mentioned that Manipur Governor La Ganesan had dissolved the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly and an order was issued in this regard on March 11.
At the same time, N Biren Singh also resigned from the post of chief minister to continue as caretaker chief minister till an arrangement is made.
The caretaker Chief Minister N Biren Singh, MLAs elect Th Biswajit Singh,Y Khemchand Singh,Govindas Konthoujam,L Sushindro Singh,Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar,DGP Manipur P Doungel and other top officials of the state attended the day’s swearing in ceremony at Raj Bhavan in Imphal.
The newly sworn member-elect Rajen Singh, when asked about the formation of the new BJP-led government in the state after the day's ceremony, opined that BJP is a ‘well-disciplined’ party and all elected members would abide by the decision taken by the party’s high command.
On the other hand, MLA-elect Th Biswajit Singh from Thongju assembly constituency speaking to the media here also shared a similar sentiment.
The Bharatiya Janata Party had won 32 seats out of the state's 60 seats while Congress and Naga People’s Front secured five seats each in the recently concluded 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections.
The National People’s Party, a coalition partner of the BJP in the previous government, became the second largest party with seven seats. The Janata Dal (U) secured six, newly floated Kuki People’s Alliance two and three Independents.
