
A reliable source told this newspaper that the first session of the 14th NLA is likely to take place on March 20, during which the newly elected legislators will be sworn in and the Speaker will be appointed to lead the business of the House after a break.
After the Speaker and Deputy Speaker take oath or affirmation to constitute the House, it was informed that the first session will discuss issues related to the budget.
The source said that former Speaker, Sharingain Longkumer, might retain the same post for the 14th NLA.
It may be mentioned that out of the 37 elected members from the NDPP- BJP alliance, 36 of them have been allotted portfolios – 12 cabinet and 24 advisors to various departments -- except Longkumer. Pro-tem Speaker, Mhathung Yanthan, has been allocated the portfolio of advisor for Agriculture department.

Rio, Patton call on President
Meanwhile, Neiphiu Rio, who recently became the chief minister of Nagaland for a record fifth term, along with Yanthungo Patton, who was sworn in as Deputy CM for the second time, called on President of India, Droupadi Murmu, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Saturday.
The chief minister updated this on his official Twitter handle.
Rio also greeted the Sangtam community on the occasion of Tsohsu festival.
