SWD extends Rs 47 lakh Grant-in-Aid to 51 NGOs

Principal Correspondent KOHIMA, MAY 6 THE department of Social Welfare, Government of Nagaland, today extended financial support in the form of Grant-in-Aid (GIA) to 51 non-governmental organisations, spread all over the State with an amount of Rs 47 lakh for the year 2013-14. The formal disbursement function was held at Zonal Council Hall Kohima coinciding with review meeting of NGOs receiving GIA from the Department of Social Welfare. Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Minister for Social Welfare Kiyaneilie Peseyie said the department has been giving financial assistance in the form of GIA however meager amount it may be to NGOs rendering their services in the field of care and protection of orphans and destitute children, drug abuse prevention programme, welfare programme for senior citizens and persons with disabilities. “I am proud to say that some of the NGOs have received state as well as national awards for their outstanding services,” he said while appealing to all the NGOs to rededicate their services for the welfare of the humanities so as to achieve not only national but international recognition also.He also said the review meeting-cum-get together with the NGOs is aimed to get closer between the department officials and the NGOs implementing the various projects to jointly endeavor for the upliftment of humanity. The Minister also disbursed GIA to the NGOs.
