Dimapur, Dec. 20: The department of Soil & Water Conservation (S&WC), Dimapur organised one-day training programme on Integrated Catchment Area Treatment Plan (ICATP) at its district office on December 19.
DSCO A.S. HovutoZhimomi, welcomed all the trainees and briefed them on the purpose of the training and also urged them to work hand in hand with the department for the successful implementation of the project.
Delivering the keynote address, deputy director, Khekiho Shohe spoke on the concept of ICATP and the importance of treatment of catchment areas for its stabilization against future soil erosion, retention and conservation of moisture to mitigate floods. He also stressed on the importance of success of this project, being a pilot project which will open the possibility to be implemented in other districts in the near future. ASCO(R) Er. Limasunup presented on the methods of soil and water conservation through engineering measures like gully plugs gabion structures, loose boulder check dams, brushwood check dams, contour trench etc, while Roukousietuo SDO (Sc) delivered on the technical activities and work components under the project. Er. Imtiwati, AE spoke on the importance of water quality monitoring and sediment monitoring.
A total of 11 villages under Dimapur district participated in the training programme.
