Mokokchung, Sept. 15 (EMN): Joining the rest of the country, the nationwide cleanliness campaign “Swachhata Hi Seva” (cleanliness is service) was launched in Nagaland on Sep. 15.
Swachhata Hi Seva campaign aims at accelerating the momentum of Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) in the run-up to its 4th anniversary which was started on October 2, 2014.
This campaign will also coincide with the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
It aims at re-energising the citizen’s movement and lay down the foundation for personal and community hygiene sustainability, and to reinforce the concept of ‘sanitation is everyone’s business.’
In Mokokchung, Deputy Commissioner Sachin Jaiswal launched the campaign at the ADC (planning) conference hall. The programme was organized by WSSO, PHED, Mokokchung division.
Speaking at the launch event, the DC called upon the nodal department of the campaign to ensure the participation of all the departments to achieve the mission.
Jaiswal maintained that enthusiastic and active youths of the village should be made ambassador to rural areas for the mission.
“Sense of ownership is lacking, therefore individuals should take the ownership of the programme to achieve its mission,” the DC said on the sideline of the programme.
Executive engineer (PHED) Yanger Pongen, said that Swachhata Hi Seva is a Central government initiative to spread awareness on cleanliness. He added that the key message of this campaign is to encourage each and every citizen of the country to be a part of this cleanliness drive.
Pongen informed that the department will be organising social work in select villages and appoint sanitation agents. He added that a state-level video competition on the theme, “Sanitation is everyone business” will be organized. Each video clip should be about 3-5 minutes in duration and shot from a mobile phone or other video recording devices. The video clip should be submitted to the PHED directorate or district division office before Sep. 26.
Meanwhile, in Kohima, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kohima Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, launched the campaign at Chandmari Higher Secondary School.
In her address, Lithrongla encouraged students to inculcate good sanitary practice at home, school and wherever they go. She also asked them to develop a sense of belongingness towards keeping the community clean.
More than 600 students, including officers and staffs from WSSO, DWSM PHED and teachers attended the function in Kohima.
