Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign launched in Kohima, with cleanliness activities scheduled across Nagaland from September 17 to October 2.

DIMAPUR — The Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 campaign was launched at the Directorate of Urban Development, Kohima, on Thursday, with the campaign scheduled to be conducted across Nagaland from September 17 to October 2.
The campaign is being organised by the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), Urban Development, and Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), PHED, to strengthen citizen participation and collective action towards cleanliness, a DIPR report stated.
Commissioner and Secretary, Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Kekhrievor Kevichu, launched the campaign and administered the Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 pledge.
Speaking at the launch, Director of Urban Development, Tarachu Fithu, stated that October 2 is observed as Swachh Bharat Diwas to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
As a prelude to the occasion, the fortnight-long Swachhata Hi Seva campaign has been observed since 2017 to promote voluntarism and collective action for a Clean India.

Fithu outlined five pillars of activities for SHS 2026 to be undertaken by local bodies, state governments, line departments and public sector enterprises.
These include the transformation of Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) and clean public places; Swachh Paathshala (clean institutions of learning); Yuva for Swachhata (youth for cleanliness); SafaiMitra Suraksha Seva Evam Samman Shivir (sanitation workers’ safety, service and respect camps); Jan Bhaagidari for Swachhata (people’s participation in cleanliness); and Swachhata Se Samriddhi (wealth from cleanliness).
He emphasised that active participation by line departments is essential for the successful implementation of the campaign, stating that sanitation and cleanliness require a “whole-of-government” and “whole-of-society” approach.
Fithu further informed that a State Level Coordination Committee (SLCC) has been constituted with representatives from stakeholder departments and agencies, including Urban Development, PHED, Forest and Environment, Health and Family Welfare, Tourism, School Education, Higher and Technical Education, Information and Public Relations, Rural Development, Municipal Affairs, Nagaland Pollution Control Board, NGOs and civil society organisations, as well as state and central missions.
The campaign activities will be carried out across the State during the period, with all stakeholder departments participating in their assigned roles.
Activities will be monitored, recorded and uploaded to the designated portal, he added.
