Imphal, Sep. 25 (EMN): Develop culture of staying clean by collecting the waste and treating it scientifically before discharging it into the environment, as the state develops its beautiful culture. This will help in placing Manipur in the topper’s list of national ranking of Swachh Survekshan-2020.
This was disclosed by Joint Secretary and Mission Director (Swachh Bharat Mission) VK Jindal of Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs while addressing the inaugural function of Swachh Survekshan-2020 Regional Workshop in Imphal on Wednesday, September 25.
To sensitise about the objective of Swachh Survekshan (Cleanliness survey)-2020, the Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development (MAHUD) Department organised the workshop and it was attended by Commissioner (MAHUD) M Joy Singh and Director (MAHUD) Th Harikumar Singh along with team leader Sanghamitra Bhattacharya and Nivedita Malhotra of Quality Council of India.
Assuring necessary funds for the development, Mission Director Jindal suggested to declare a part of Imphal city as free from plastic carry bags and used a model for the entire state by converting the old clothes into carry bags. He also strongly suggested transforming lives of municipality workers who works in the ground by cleaning the towns and safety tanks by providing necessary facilities including government schemes.
Commissioner (MAHUD) Joy appealed to the representatives of the state’s 27 urban local bodies (ULB) who attended the day’s workshop to come forward with specific work plans to achieve the targets.
Earlier Director (MAHUD) Harikumar highlighted the major achievements of the state in the national ranking of cleanliness programmes. About 250 representatives of ULBs in the state participated in the day’s workshop.
The Swachh Survekshan is an annual survey of cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation in cities and towns across India. It was launched as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, which aims to make India clean and free of open defecation by October 2.
