Joining hands with the rest of the country for the launch of ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ a special cleanliness drive was conducted at Dimapur Railway Station today. The mission organized by Northeast Frontier Railways in collaboration with Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) and various sections of the citizens was led by Dimapur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Wezope Kenye, with individuals taking a pledge, ‘I will remain committed towards cleanliness and devote time for this…I will neither litter nor let others litter’ and paid homage to Mahatma. On the launch of ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ Dimapur DC emphasized on the need to create awareness on cleanliness ‘wherever we are or we may be so that we have a healthy life living.’ Confident with the launching of the mission which is to continue for another five years, Wezope hoped that with the message of the mission every citizen will follow and create responsiveness among one another. DC thanked all for their sacrifice and participation, saying the mission will continue to be practiced. The program was attended by officials of the district administration including Deputy Commissioner, SDOs of Medziphima, Dhansaripar, Kohuboto & SDO Protocol (Head Qr.); EACs of Niuland and Chumukedima; ADC Head Qr.; State & Railway Police; Members of the G.B. Association both sardar and district, Naga Council Dimapur, NABARD, Nagaland Centre for Human Development & Information Technology, Scouts and Guides from Don Bosco Higher Secondary School Dimapur and St. Paul Higher Secondary School; students of Livingstone Foundation Higher Secondary School, Dimapur Railway High School and Dayanand Vidya Niketan Purana bazar; students of Salesian College, NSS members from Dimapur Govt. College, and staff of Airport Authority of India Dimapur Airport. Railway officers both from the Zonal Head Quarter, Maligaon and Divisional Head Quarter, Lumding and a contingent of Scouts and Guides from Lumding were also present for the cleanliness drive. It may be noted that DMC placed men and machines to clear garbage from several garbage dumping sites within the Railway premises that have been lying uncleared even on this day due to failure on the part of the contractor responsible to lift and remove the garbages. The organizers also acknowledged the contribution of MP & former Chief minister Neiphiu Rio for sponsoring the refreshments and other minor expenses. Earlier, Railway Senior Divisional Officer, Dr. Stephen Kamson welcomed the gathering while senior most G.B Yihamo Ovung invoked God’s blessing. DGM of NABARD Tiakala, DMC Chief Executive Officer Atokhe and Enquiry Officer from the vigilance wing of N.F. Rly Maligaon Johnson exhorted the gathering to contribute to the success of the national program and respond to the call of the Prime Minister to ‘clean up India’ and meaningfully celebrate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation who dreamed of ‘clean India’.
