It has been a year since the Swachh Bharat mission which targets Clean India by 2109 was announced and the goal for Clean India continues to reel in the city with an awareness programme on Clean Chumukedima Town here on Thursday December 10 at Chumukedima Town Council Conference Hall.
Swachh Bharat Ambassador for Dimapur Geoffrey Yaden gracing the ‘Clean Chumukedima’ programme as the chief guest reminded the Chumukedima denizens that cleanliness drive responsibility should not be practiced only during the social work day but instill the practice by individuals on a daily basis. Geoffrey pointed out that for an individual practicing bad habit is not a problem but to practice good habit is a trouble. So he called on individuals to break this irresponsible practice.
While stating Chumukedima to be a tribally cosmopolitan town, he articulated Swachh Bharat a voluntary mission which is a challenge for all concern citizens. “We rely only on the government for all matter which is why development has stopped. Mission such as Swachh Bharat should be developed with a voluntary participation” said Geoffrey.
Questioning individuals on their dependence up on the government even for matter of cleaning, he persuaded the gathering to inculcate awareness on such matters as cleanliness is a habit and consciousness for Nagas. Development he underlined will not take place until the society remains stagnant with cleanliness drive with a voluntary attitude. On the day Swachh Bharat Ambassador Dimapur Geoffrey suggested on putting up public toilets so that people can have easy access maintaining clean environment and experience a new beginning.
Delivering speech on behalf of senior citizens Retired DGP Nagaland Thechamo Ezung IPS stated Swachh Bharat a big vision for the country by India’s Prime Minister an through this vision, he expressed India to be marching towards a developed India.
Acknowledging Cleanliness to be a big responsibility, Ezung extended cooperation to the government and at the same time appealed on the citizens to extend a helping hand to the as the government alone cannot do all things without the indisputable support from the public. “We should know how to ask for our rights and at the same time know our responsibility” conveyed the retired DGP.
On the occasion Swachh Bharat Mission Quiz winners were rewarded with cash prizes and citation. The quiz competition which was held on 27th November 2015 saw participation of 5 schools Godwin Hr.Sr.School Chumukedima, Mt.Mary Hr.Sr.School Chumukedima, North Town Hr.Sr.School Chumukedima, St.Joseph Hr.Sr.School Chumukedima and Government Hr.Sr.School Chumukedima.
Government Hr.Sr.School Chumukedima emerged as the winner with St.Joseph Hr.Sr.School Chumukedima and North Town Hr.Sr.School Chumukedima receiving the 2nd and 3rd position.
Earlier the invocation was pronounced by Pochury Baptist Church Chumum Pastor Hopejoy and welcome address was delivered by EAC Chumukedima and Administrator Chumukedima Tribal Council (CTC) Thungbemo Patton. The day was marked with Swachh Bharat pledge.
