Principal Correspondent KOHIMA, OCTOBER 2 In consonance with the central government’s initiative of Clean India Campaign (Swachh Bharat), the Kohima District Project Officer (DPO) for Land Resources Development today carried out cleanliness along highway below its office in Keziekie colony and Meriema. Led by DPO Kohima Dr. Menuosietuo Tseikha, the staff whitewashed the retaining walls and cleaned the steps and footpaths from its office at Keziekie upto the tri-junction. Subsequently, the Team Reachout also joined Watershed Committee (WC) & Self Help Group (SHG) at Meriema junction in cleaning the garbage on the road side and the market shed constructed under Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP). After the cleanliness drive, Joint Director of Land Resources of Department, Kruyie Pienyü called upon the villagers to continue maintaining their surroundings clean as has been declared by the government of India coinciding with the 150th birth anniversary celebration of Mahatma Gandhi today. Dr. Tseikha also administered the Swacchta (cleanliness) pledge to the participants, including the women SHGs and leaders. The pledge reads: “I take this pledge that I will remain committed towards cleanliness and devote time for this. I will devote 100 hours per year, that is, two hours per week, to voluntarily work for cleanliness. I will neither litter not let others litter. I will initiate the quest for cleanliness with myself, my family, my locality, my village and my work place. I believe that the countries of the world that appear clean are so because their citizens don’t indulge in littering nor do they allow it to happen. With this firm belief, I will propagate the message of Swachh Bharat Mission in villages and towns. I will encourage 100 other persons to take this pledge which I am taking today. I will endeavour to make them devote their 100 hours for cleanliness. I am confident that every step I take towards cleanliness will help in making my country clean”.
