  • DIMAPUR — The Seyochung Village Students’ Union (SVSU) has raised serious concerns regarding the ongoing road metalling work between Sitimi and Seyochung HQ following a site visit on Monday.

  • In a letter to the additional deputy commissioner of Seyochung town, the union stated that there was an absence of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) officials. Despite prior communication, no representatives from the BRO office were present during the visit.

  • Furthermore, it alleged that the metalling work lacks proper compaction and durability according to standard construction practices. There is no proper drainage system, which could lead to the risk of waterlogging and road deterioration over time.

  • The SVSU stated that the road does not follow IRC guidelines for cross slope, which are essential for water runoff and road longevity. No culverts, ditches, or drainage structures have been properly installed.

  • In light of these concerns, the union urged the competent authority to take necessary corrective measures to ensure the quality and sustainability of the project.
  • It requested the ADC's intervention in addressing these issues with the concerned department and contractor as soon as possible.

  • Visit to schools

  • Meanwhile, the SVSU and the youth ministry of Seyochung Village Baptist Lithro visited Government High School, Seyochung village, on Monday and donated books on Sangtam Naga literature and works by native authors to promote local literature and introduce students to indigenous writers. They also donated a first-aid kit, including sanitary pads for female students.

  • In a press statement, the union said that during the visit, Longtili C Sangtam, president of SVSU, thanked the school for successfully launching the Nagaland Heritage (Sangtam) programme and urged the headmaster to prepare a routine for the youth pastor, who has volunteered to contribute to the initiative.

  • The SVSU also visited St. Mary’s High School, Seyochung town, where they donated books to the school library to encourage reading among students.

  • During discussions, faculty members highlighted challenges in Aadhaar enrolment, mentioning that nearly 200 out of 493 students had yet to complete the process due to difficulties in obtaining birth certificates.

  • They also raised concerns about name correction issues, as the Nagaland Board of School Education has restricted such changes despite requests from parents and students to the authority. The school authorities sought the SVSU’s support in addressing these issues with the concerned authorities.

  • In response, the president assured the union’s full assistance in advocating for solutions and ensuring the welfare of the student community.
