- KIPHIRE — The
Seyochung Village Students' Union (SVSU) library is a fine example of teamwork
and community effort. Built in 2017 without any special budget, it was made
possible through the leadership of Chumseli K Anar and his team.
- Chumseli K Anar, the former president SVSU, shared that the
team first sought help from the Seyochung Village Council, which allowed them
to use materials from village council’s office.
- They also approached Khaliba Anar for land, wherein he
generously donated it. The neighbours supported the idea and the project moved
forward.
- Books for the library came from the Department of Art and
Culture, Government of Nagaland, and donations from individuals. Thanks to such
support and contributions, the library became a reality and was officially
opened on December 27, 2017 by C Kipili Sangtam, former Minister for Power.
- The library is located in the centre of Seyochung village
and serves both students and the public. It provides a variety of resources,
including books, digital materials, and writings from local intellectuals.
- With an annual budget of about INR 14,000, the library is
managed by two secretaries who serve for three years. It is open 24/7 and
allows visitors to borrow books for up to seven days. Students from St. Mary
High School in Seyochung town help maintain it every week.
- The library would not have been possible without the support
of donors and the Raja Ram Mohan Roy Library Foundation. The Seyochung Village
Students' Union expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed towards the
success of the library.
- Today, the Seyochung village library is a valuable resource,
inspiring many and proving the strength of community cooperation.
