- MOKOKCHUNG — The Sungkomen Ward surveillance
camera activation and dedication programme took place at Peniel Hall, Sungkomen
Baptist Church, Mokokchung, on Saturday, marking the installation of 16
surveillance cameras to enhance security and reduce anti-social activities.
- Launched by the Sungkomen Youth Organisation (SYO) in
collaboration with the Social Concern Committee of Sungkomen Baptist Church,
the initiative aims to foster collective vigilance and ensure safety throughout
Sungkomen Ward.
- Temsukaba Kichu, convenor of the Surveillance Camera
Installation Committee and SYO advisor, revealed on the occasion that eight
cameras were funded through community contributions raised during a fundraising
feast in December 2024, while the Social Concern Committee donated the
remaining eight.
- The cameras, monitored by a five-member committee from the
Sungkomen Ward Council and SYO, are installed at strategic locations and
supported by seven households providing Wi-Fi and hosting equipment.

- Kichu noted that the project, adopted in December 2024 after
initial discussions in 2022, had faced logistical challenges, including
electrification and Wi-Fi access.
- He said installing the cameras was not easy
and required coordination and community cooperation. He thanked residents,
neighbouring Tongdentsüyong Ward, Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem, and the
Dilong Youth Association for their support.
- He urged sustained monitoring and warned that without
continued vigilance the effort would be meaningless. He called on all 18
Mokokchung wards to adopt similar systems for public safety.
- Sungkomen Ward Chairman Yangerjungba, while activating the
Sungkomen Ward Surveillance Camera, acknowledged SYO’s leadership, noting that
the project began in 2022 and was completed despite financial hurdles.
- He said they saw good intentions in the youth, led by
churches and the ward council, and praised Sungkomen Baptist Church’s
consistent welfare contributions. He encouraged ongoing youth efforts, assured
council support, and declared that keeping up with the world should be their
aim.
