Dimapur, Jan. 14: Surumi Community Zunheboto Town (SCZT) celebrated 50 years of its existence on January 13 at SCZT site, DC Hill, Zunheboto. Parliamentary Secretary of Jail, Science and Technology, Hukavi Zhimomi graced the occasion as chief guest, while Parliamentary Secretary of Fishery, Printing and Stationary, Shetoyi Yeptho was the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Hukavi Zhimomi encouraged the Surumi community to remain united and live a meaningful life. Reflecting on the present Naga society where individualism has overtaken the need and aspirations of the Nagas, the parliamentary secretary exhorted the community to live an exemplary life by helping and respecting one another.
Urging that Surumi community has big responsibilities in Sumi society as Surumi is the second biggest populated village in Zunheboto district, the parliamentary secretary asked the community to forgive and forget past mistakes, retrospect and introspect and lend a helping hands towards the uplift of Naga society. Hukavi later unveiled the jubilee monolith.
Parliamentary Secretary of Fishery, Printing and Stationary, Shetoyi Yeptho in his speech lauded the pioneers of SCZT in laying the foundation for better generations and urged upon the community to live a respectable life by living a corruption free life and be a role model in the society. Lamenting that government and politicians alone cannot remove corruption, Shetoyi asked every individual, churches, hohos and various associations to fight corruption by being true to themselves and be a true Christian.
The programme was chaired by Vilito K Awomi and Abotoli D Awomi, while the welcome address was delivered by Dr. Nitovi Shikhu and jubilee prayer by said by senior pastor SBCZ, Rev. Yevito Jimo.
The parliamentary secretaries were accompanied by DC Zunheboto, T Roy, SP, Krodi Retso, SDO (C) Holohon Yeptho, SDPO Yevukhu Awomi, and host of other dignitaries.
